Full-Time – Toronto, ON, CA  
Job Summary
Reporting to the Vice President, Finance & Operations, the Managing Director, OneEleven, will lead the development and deployment of strategic initiatives, accelerating the implementation of OneEleven’s programs and initiatives including leading, developing, and executing strategies and tactical plans to achieve program and initiative targets and drive division growth. The Managing Director, OneEleven will hold overall accountability for the outcomes (deliverables) of the OneEleven portfolio. The Managing Director, OneEleven will act as a scale-up domain expert and resource, working internally and externally to provide thought leadership, curate a pipeline of scale-up stage companies, and establish OneEleven and OCI as a leader in scale-up expertise and programming.
Duties and Responsibilities 
Leadership
  • This role will be responsible for executing and delivering the OneEleven portfolio and have the primary responsibility for its activities.
  • Thought leadership and outreach to a broad range of stakeholders across Canada’s incubator and start-up eco-system
  • Drive the internal community towards scale through a shared set of goals that speak to their ambition but also connects them to the larger interests of the Toronto ecosystem and technology sector
  • Build out the One Eleven portfolio by identifying high-promise companies with strong leadership, product and point of view.
  • Ensure the delivery of a data system to accurate measurements of impact of services, and landed partnerships
  • Create, communicate and execute a vision for innovation externally and internally that lead to new levels of internal and external contributions.
  • Create targeted strategic content aimed at investors and talent, broadcasting accomplishments and reinforcing the narrative
  • Bond the community through shared projects and programming, and develop a social graph that allows them to benefit from the skills and insights of other members
  • Partner with the various ministries and stakeholders to co-develop and negotiate new and existing programs and initiatives.
  • Engage strategically with the public and private sectors to establish OneEleven as a model for effective scale ups, at company and ecosystem level
  • Lead key program activities, making proposal presentations to stakeholders, conducting the project and business case reviews, etc.
  • Liaise regularly with stakeholders to track progress against milestones and reporting metrics.
  • Provide direction and guidance to other OCE service groups as it relates to the incubator community (e.g. Marketing / Communication and Finance groups on key projects within these initiatives) as well as support when it relates to other programs and activities at OCE.
  Program Delivery
  • Lead targeted outreach to seek high-promise companies with strong leadership, product and point of view.
  • Ensure these successful partnerships reflect the diversity of the ecosystem and its customer base, in leadership and product focus
  • Liaise regularly with stakeholders to track progress against milestones and reporting metrics.
  • Engage and develop an understanding of the needs and wants of the public sector, business, investment and research communities in this sector.
  • Build and maintain the OCE network, including the identification and development of strategic partnerships and initiatives to advance the stakeholder goals of this and other initiatives.
  • Leverage and grow existing networks of investors, alumni, mentors and other community assets to support public sector led ventures.
  • Direct a client portfolio consisting of several projects, dealing with the day-to-day aspects of working with stakeholders to develop appropriate proposals for clients; facilitating stakeholder interaction with respect to plans/activities.
  • Work collaboratively across the organization to deliver on program targets. Build cross-department credibility, confidence, and collaboration with Programs, Business Development, and Marketing and Communications teams.
  • Plan, develop, and deliver events (e.g. workshops, seminars, regional network meetings)
  • Accountable for the identification and development of information for related success stories in conjunction with the Marketing and Communications group.
  Scale-Ups 
  • Provide thought leadership and outreach to a broad range of stakeholders across Ontario’s innovation ecosystem positioning OneEleven and OCI as a leader in scale-up expertise and programming.
  • Create, communicate, and execute a vision internally and externally for OneEleven as Canada’s premier community of scale-up companies, leading to new levels of revenue and contributions.
  • Curate a pipeline of high-potential scale-up stage companies and expand their pool of available growth resources by connecting them with talent, venture capital, customers, and promotion.
  • Identify the elements high-potential post-seed companies need to scale-up successfully and become Canada’s future market-leaders; develop scale-up strategy and programming for OneEleven; develop scale-up metrics and deliver on scale-up targets.
  • Act as a domain expert and resource, providing expertise and support to Business Development, Programs, and Communication teams as it relates to scale-up stage companies.
  • Work with program leads to identify companies in OCI’s program portfolio that are at a suitable stage and may benefit from OneEleven scale-up supports; proactively engage with suitable portfolio companies to plug them into the OneEleven community.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree; advanced degrees will be considered an asset.
  • 10 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Entrepreneurial and/or investment experience will be considered an asset.
  • Robust, province-wide network; senior-level relationships with industry, academic and government stakeholders; trusted relationships with key players across Ontario’s innovation ecosystem.
  • Demonstrated, first-hand knowledge of R&D funding, business support, and innovation programs in Ontario and nationally.
  • In-depth understanding of the commercialization of academic intellectual property (IP), industry-academic collaborations, and the development and adoption of emerging advanced technologies.
  • Proven experience in leading, engaging, and developing a results-oriented, high performing team.
  • Creative and enjoys working in a small entrepreneurial environment that is results-driven.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including effective engagement with diverse and senior industry and research stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of financial information (including financial statements – balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement).
  • Possesses a positive attitude, integrity, a sense of humor, and brings a positive energy and outlook to a not-for-profit corporate culture.
